FUEL FINDER
Chevron came to us looking for a complete code update and revamped user experience for their Chevron station finder application. The goal was to release an app that could grow with the future of location awareness, proximity sensing, and NFC payment.
User Experience Goals
The previous app used legacy code from a white-label gas station location data service. Chevron wanted a total interaction design overhaul that made use of new technologies, such as proximity sensing. The app was meant to extend and improve the customer experience at Chevron stations.
Research & Design
We investigated location awareness technology that would allow the user to plan their road trips and find gas stations along the way. We prototyped a proximity system to understand its limitations before presenting a solution to the client. We showed how Chevron could be aware of the customer's exact pump without needing to replace expensive station equipment. We helped integrate Apple Pay into their station network database so that users could find stores that accept that payment method. We also explored how to use push notifications to offer relevant temporary and hyper-local promotions.
Conclusion
Chevron's Station Finder app is available from the App Store, and has seen a strong uptick in usage since the experience update.
