WEBMD PAIN COACH

WebMD came to us looking to create a simple journaling app for chronic pain sufferers. After user research with doctors and patients, we refined this idea into a service that empowered patients to better manage their pain and share succinct and relevant information with their doctors.

Ultra-Personalized

One of the biggest interaction design challenges of this project was determining how the user would customize their experience to their specific condition and chronic pain symptoms.

Additionally, WebMD has an immense database of symptoms, conditions, treatments, tips, and other resources. Our solution takes into account what content is served up to the user and when.

Incorporating Usability Feedback

One of the main interactions the user has with the app is a daily report of her pain. The original design was a circular wheel that the user would spin to select a value. After usability testing this design, we decided to change this interaction device to a linear spectrum that was more understandable to users and representative of their pain level.

Reception

After the app was launch, it was featured as a top app in the health section of the iPhone app store, as well as some morning news hours that showcased popular health related apps.

The app continues to be popular and has a four-star average review in the app store:
